Theatre of the Oppressed
Apr 9, 2026 — 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Collaboratoire d’Anthropologie Multimédia / Multimedia Anthropology Collaboratory (CAM/MAC) invites students and members of the uOttawa community on Thursday April 9, 2026, to its first student-led theatre performance. Inspired by Augusto Boal’s “Theatre of the Oppressed” model, a group of anthropology graduate students will perform two “forum theatre” plays centered on the question; how do we want to live in a world with artificial intelligence?
How do we want to live in a world with artificial intelligence?
Theatre of the Oppressed is a dramatic exercise that theatrically presents an unsolved problem or symptoms of oppression. The two plays that will be performed are inspired by stories shared by members of the University of Ottawa, who experienced instances where AI has caused unjust or oppressive circumstances. Theatre of the Oppressed is an interactive performance that encourages audience members to interrupt the play to attempt to solve the problem being presented. The goal is to practice how to imagine alternative possibilities and transform the realities we are a part of.
