Khalil Habrih
The Faculty of Social Sciences is proud to announce that Khalil Habrih, a PhD graduate in Anthropology, has been awarded the Governor General’s Gold Medal for 2025 in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in the Humanities.

He received this prestigious honour for his doctoral thesis entitled “The ‘New Gate of Paris.’ Planning, Topography, and Queer Affect in the 18e Arrondissement”. His research offers a compelling and original contribution to the study of urban space, historical geography, and queer affect, demonstrating exceptional scholarly depth and innovation.

The Governor General’s Gold Medal is one of Canada’s highest academic distinctions. It is awarded following a Faculty recommendation and a rigorous selection process conducted by a university-wide selection committee, recognizing the most outstanding doctoral research across disciplines.
