Daniel Stockemer, a professor at the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa, has received the prestigious State Politics and Policy Quarterly (SPPQ) Best Paper Award 2026. This award, presented by the American Political Science Association (APSA), recognizes the best paper on state politics and public policy presented at conferences during the year.
The article entitled “Youth Representation and Democratic Legitimacy” was co-authored by Professor Daniel Stockemer, Aksel Sundstrom (University of Gothenburg) and Charles McClean (Yale University). Their research shows that the inclusion of young representatives on committees strengthens perceptions of fairness and democratic legitimacy, particularly among young citizens.
This achievement highlights the excellence of the research conducted at our Faculty and our commitment to deepening the understanding of current democratic issues in order to build a more inclusive society.
