Guillermo Matamoros (PhD Economics, University of Ottawa, 2023) has been awarded the 2024 Joan Robinson Prize by the Review of Political Economy for the best article published by a young scholar. His winning paper, “Are firms’ markups boosting inflation?”, reflects his ongoing work on inflation, income distribution, and economic development.
Guillermo Matamoros is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Economics Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He will join the department as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2025. His research focuses on inflation, income distribution, monetary policy, and economic development, with publications in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes. He has received the Graduate Essay Contest Prize from the Progressive Economics Forum (Canada) in 2021 and the Jesús Silva Herzog Prize in Economic Research (Mexico) in 2018. Guillermo holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Ottawa, as well as Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Economics from UNAM in Mexico.
