Biography

Michel Gauthier is a former Army Lieutenant-General with more than 36 years of Canadian military service, much of it focused on operations from humanitarian relief and peacekeeping to combat. In his final appointment, at the height of Canada’s engagement in Afghanistan, he was the first Commander, Canadian Expeditionary Force Command, responsible for all of Canada’s military missions abroad.  Prior to this, he served as the Chief of Defence Intelligence and in numerous demanding appointments in Canada, Germany and various conflict zones. After his military service, he was an Executive Vice-President with Allen-Vanguard Corporation, a leader in the provision of customised solutions for defeating terrorist and extremist threats. He now works as a consultant, teaches at the Canadian Forces College, and is a director with the CDA Institute. He is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada and of advanced programs at the Canadian Forces College and the US Army War College.
