Arts + Human Rights in conversation: Meditations on conflict & peace
Join us for the launch of an exposition of transdisciplinary international law-arts research-creation (TILARC) reflecting on core questions about human rights, humanitarian law, conflict, and peaceful resolution of disputes.
The works pose questions about what the UN Charter says and what happens beyond the words, the human propensity for inhumanity, the impotence of being a bystander in times of conflict, the value of words of international law even when they are being violated, and the power of peaceful dispute mechanisms.
About the artist
Oonagh E. Fitzgerald | HRREC Senior Fellow
Oonagh E. Fitzgerald, Ph.D., is an international lawyer, artist and performer who has developed a practice of transdisciplinary international law-arts research-creation (TILARC) through the INDI PhD in Fine Arts program at Concordia University and her association with the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) of Ottawa University. Through TILARC, Oonagh combines reflections on international law and global crises with art making and performance to generate assemblages of ideas, collaborators, and agential matter. These assemblages seek to imagine and express positive futures in which we assert our diverse identities, connection to nature, care for each other, individual agency, and capacity to overcome current crises.
