Canada and the right to an effective remedy for corporate-related human rights violations
A webinar on Business & Human Rights
Oct 15, 2026 — 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) presents this webinar on Business & Human Rights, a multidisciplinary field of research that examines the human rights and environmental implications of business activity and considers how to prevent and redress such harm. It is also an area of social advocacy, legal practice, and consultancy.
Canada and the right to an effective remedy for corporate-related human rights violations
This webinar will consider the federal government’s elimination of the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE) and what it means for victims seeking redress in Canada against Canadian corporations. Experts will discuss Canada’s obligation to provide an effective remedy in cases where Canadian corporations are involved in human rights violations in their global activities, the CORE and what it accomplished, what is happening to the cases that were pending before the CORE, and the potential of Canada’s National Contact Point (NCP) to fill the gap left by the CORE.
