Areena is a research scholar, pursuing her thesis in international environmental law. She pursued a B.B.A. LL.B. program (specialization in corporate law) and an LLM. in international environmental law from India. From 2016 to 2018, she worked in corporations as a legal executive. She also served as a research and teaching assistant and was appointed assistant professor in 2019.
Her academic work focuses on the intersection of environmental law, human rights, and technology. Drawing on her experience in both academia and research, she addresses contemporary legal challenges, particularly those concerning the environment, social justice, and labour law. Her research explores critical issues such as the role of the Indian judiciary in embedding the doctrine of intergenerational equity, the protection of green rights for adolescents, and the welfare of casual workers in India. Her work also critically analyzes the impact of e-waste, the gendered dynamics of environmental administration, and the challenges posed by cybercrimes in the online gaming sector. She has also contributed to the academic discourse through book chapters on the Code on Social Security and the impact of electronic waste on climate change under the international environmental legal framework.
She has been serving as a Research Assistant at the University of Ottawa since 2023 for the Business and Human Rights Projects. Due to this, she has gained valuable insights into the intersection of human rights and environmental policies, and her current research is dedicated to examining the broader impact of technological advancements on society and the environment, with a particular emphasis on sustainable development and legal governance in the context of global environmental challenges.
She is committed to contributing to the advancement of social laws, seeking to provide research-driven solutions that address pressing global challenges. Her ongoing research reflects her dedication to creating a more sustainable and equitable future.
