Biography

Zahra Hakimi is a scholar of Medical Physiology and Midwifery from Afghanistan. She holds an M.Sc. from Mashhad Medical University (Iran) and has 2 years of experience as a university professor in the Physiology Department at Ghalib Faculty of Medicine (Afghanistan). Prior to this, Zahra had 16 years of experience teaching courses within the departments of midwifery at the Institute of Health Sciences (Afghanistan). As a researcher, Mrs. Hakimi has published 2 books and 3 academic articles.

In Afghanistan, she was a family planning national trainer, worked with the Human Right Organization and provided counseling and treatment to women who were victims of sexual assault. After the 2021 invasion of the Taliban, she was unable to continue her activities given to the subject of her academic work and social activism. She received threats of violence and harassment. Due to the continuing situation and the ongoing violence in Afghanistan, Zahra Hakimi travelled to Canada in November 2022, where she is working as a Visiting Researcher at the Centre for Research on Health and Nursing (CRHN) at uOttawa. During her time in Ottawa, she will teach a course on the Maternal Child Nursing Care (nursing student) and will do research as part of the Montfort Postnatal Care at home (MPCH) Program Research, among other.
