In this for-credit opportunity at the Human Rights Research and Education Centre’s Human Rights Clinic, students will provide research support to Amanda Dale, Ph.D., HRREC Fellow and member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) 2027-2030. The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women is the world’s bill of rights for women. It provides States Parties with the parameters and supports to achieve their goals and legal obligations of gender equality. It is an intersectional tool for the globe's women to frame their rights and demands and understand their opportunities. The CEDAW Committee plays the crucial role of providing the link between the articles of the Treaty, the lived realities of the world’s women, and the obligations of States that have ratified its terms.

Research topics may include issues at the intersection of gender and climate change; the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 obligations/ Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights; small arms; the right to health, including Conflict-Related Sexual Violence; global grassroots campaigns employing CEDAW; domestic consultations regarding the upcoming General Recommendation on Women and Disabilities, among other things.

This opportunity is intended for second- and third-year JD students with strong law school records and demonstrated interests in public international law, human rights, and gender equality.
