MHRI partner organizations Community Music Schools of Toronto, Lotus Centre for Special Music Education, and Sarah McLachlan School of Music have received an $80,000 grant from the Azrieli Foundation for their project Community Music: From Vision to Impact. The objective of this project is to better understand the impact of community music programs on students and how the organizations at work achieve this impact. This project is designed with four phases: 1) understanding the organizational structures that create robust community music schools; 2) exploring the pedagogical approaches that support student bodies from vulnerable populations; 3) measuring the impact on students, and 4) developing and testing ways to support new community music programs and organizations. Phase 1 is complete and results have been presented at various conferences including MHRI, with publication forthcoming. This grant will fund phases 2 and 3 of the project, beginning in January 2025.
