Daniel Lamarre, Vice-Chair

President and Chief Executive Officer, Cirque du Soleil

Daniel Lamarre

In 2006, Daniel Lamarre succeeded the company's founder as President and CEO of one of the biggest entertainment businesses in the world, Cirque du Soleil. Under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Lamarre, the Cirque du Soleil brand has continued to thrive, and is recognized globally for its creative autonomy, business acumen, avant-garde performance philosophy and social values.

Following his term as President and CEO of the TVA Group Inc., Mr. Lamarre joined Cirque du Soleil in 2001 as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Shows and New Ventures divisions. At that time, the Cirque de Soleil organization had 2,000 employees and seven shows in performance. Ten years later, nearly 4,000 employees support 18 shows on five continents—a decade of amazing growth inspired and guided by Mr. Lamarre's vision.

Most notably, Mr. Lamarre succeeded in reaching an agreement with the Beatles, who, for the first time in history, joined forces with other performing artists to create a show. He also negotiated the creation of two shows and other creative works with the estate of Michael Jackson. When Mr. Lamarre signed an agreement with CKX, representing Elvis Presley, his hat trick was complete; he had effectively brought together three music icons under the Cirque du Soleil banner.

Mr. Lamarre's community involvement has been deep and far reaching. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of Hexagram and a member of the Board of Trustees of the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada. Over the years, he has been an active member of the TVA Group Inc. Board of Directors, the Advisory Board for the 25th anniversary of Place des Arts, the Théâtre La Licorne Advisory Board and the Board of Directors of the École nationale de cirque du Centre Immaculée-Conception, as well as Governor of the Sports Québec Gala and the Défi sportif. Mr. Lamarre has also served on the boards of Partnership for a Drug-Free Canada and the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation, and was Chairman of the Communications Committee for the Centraide (United Way) 1995 campaign. He is also very active in causes such as One Drop, Cirque du Monde, Maison Gilles-Carle and the École nationale de cirque. He also contributes to several other causes through his own foundation.

He was conferred an Honorary Doctorate and he received the Meritas Tabaret Award for Alumni Achievement, the top award bestowed on University of Ottawa alumni. He is a long-time supporter of World Vision and has travelled to many third-world countries on behalf of that organization.
