As the University of Ottawa embraces the transformative potential of artificial intelligence, the AI advisory working group plays a pivotal role in ensuring that AI supports the university’s academic, research, and administrative goals in a responsible and effective manner. The working group is dedicated to fostering a robust foundation for AI that aligns with uOttawa’s mission and future direction, emphasizing excellence, security, and ethical practices.

Purpose of the working group

The working group aims to ensure that uOttawa AI efforts and initiatives are in line with best practices by staying abreast of the latest achievements in AI, thereby enhancing the quality and impact of AI-related activities across campus. The group is founded on three pillars: trust, transparency, and diversity that focuses on:

  • Aligning diverse AI perspectives across campus
  • Sharing knowledge about AI initiatives
  • Establishing guidelines
  • Demystifying AI for the university community

Role of the working group

The working group drives the implementation of AI-related decisions and guidelines with collaboration across the university by:

  • Making relevant and timely decisions or recommendations to foster critical dialogue leads to better and more informed AI-related decisions.
  • Ensuring transparency and increased collaboration within the institution.
  • Aligning AI initiatives with the strategic direction of the University.
  • Driving funding prioritizations and recommendations to the University’s Institutional Governance Council.

The working group is supported by academic, research, and administrative members and experts.

The Office of the CIO and the Office of the Secretary-General provide guidance for the AI advisory working group and oversee the processes that underpin AI collaboration at the University.
