Francophonie Consultation 2026, led by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Citizenship and Minorities (CIRCEM), will develop a new strategic vision to strengthen the key role of the Francophonie in uOttawa’s teaching and research mission, campus life and community engagement. Results of the consultation will be compiled in a report to be published in spring 2027.
Francophonie Consultation 2026
About the consultation
Take part in Francophonie Consultation 2026
All members of the uOttawa community are invited to take part in the consultation. All data is handled confidentially.
Student consultation
Short interviews with passersby and discussion groups allowed us to gather the points of view of over 1,500 students in 10 faculties in March and April 2026. Issues raised included campus life, teaching and research, and the meaning of the Francophonie and bilingualism. During this time, a student team transcribed and checked responses.
Teaching staff consultation
In May and June, teaching staff were invited to take part in six discussion groups. Meetings took place online and in person, in French (except for one session in English), until June 11. Participants were asked to share their views on the following topics: teaching challenges, research in French and the role of the University in the community.
Support staff consultations
Support staff were able to contribute to this initiative in June through six discussion groups ending June 18. Topics addressed included the workplace, career development, support for bilingualism, challenges and needs.
Consultation sessions with members of the uOttawa community are now over. The organizing team offers its sincere thanks to all who took part.
Mobilization and engagement continue this fall
This fall, uOttawa partners (Francophone universities and institutions in Canada and elsewhere, research bodies and networks, government ministries and bodies) will be invited by the CIRCEM to take part in the consultation.
In a few months, members of the University of Ottawa community will be invited to review the findings of the first phase of the consultation and to comment on what measures to consider. This second phase of the consultation will be conducted online.
Until the end of October, students, support staff and teaching staff can always leave their comments in the suggestion box.
