Technology often works quietly behind the scenes, but at the Faculty of Medicine, it’s transforming how students learn and how future physicians begin their journey. The Elentra support team powers this transformation through two key platforms: Elentra ME, which manages learning and curriculum, and Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) Admissions, which streamlines the path into medicine. These improvements ensure students, faculty, and staff can focus on what matters most: learning, teaching, and medical innovation.
“Performance and innovation drive everything we do. Our team strives to deliver robust, reliable solutions while constantly exploring new ways to enhance and evolve our platforms for the future.”
Empowering learning: From classroom to clinic
Elentra ME is the faculty’s all-in-one system for managing medical education, integrating curriculum design, competency mapping, assessments, exams, and reporting. Originally developed by a consortium of Canadian medical schools led by Queen’s University, uOttawa now operates the platform independently, giving the team full control to tailor it to the faculty’s specific needs.
Over the past year, the team has delivered meaningful improvements that strengthen learning and assessment. New Clinical Science and Translational Medicine (CTM) programs have been onboarded, hundreds of learning objectives are now better tagged, and assessment and reporting tools have been enhanced to provide richer insights into student progress. The upcoming November update will improve stability and performance. It will also introduce key enhancements to the assessment tools and curriculum tagging — ensuring thousands of students and faculty members continue to have reliable access to these critical resources. Looking ahead, we are conducting an in-depth analysis to explore opportunities for integrating AI within our platform to enhance assessment and reporting capabilities. The goal is to leverage AI-driven insights to streamline the evaluation process, provide more personalized and data-informed feedback to learners and faculty, and support evidence-based decision-making.
Simplifying admissions: A smoother path to medicine
The team also supports the Faculty’s Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) Admissions platform, which manages every step of the application process for aspiring physicians. Originally based on a Queen’s University codebase, the platform has been fully customized to meet the Faculty’s unique workflows.
Recent upgrades have automated applicant profile creation through uOCampus, enhanced reporting, and streamlined communications with candidates. These changes save dozens of hours of manual work during each admissions cycle, speed up processing for thousands of applicants, and create a more efficient and reliable experience for both staff and candidates.
Driving change behind the scenes
Every enhancement-whether a more intuitive dashboard, faster reporting, or automated workflows- translates directly into benefits for the community. Faculty gain more time for teaching and mentorship; students have reliable access to the tools they need to succeed, and administrators can rely on systems that evolve alongside their needs.
With each improvement, the Elentra support team is transforming digital learning—driving innovation, enhancing education, and supporting the next generation of physicians.
