Kathryn Butler Malette is the former Chair of the Board of Governors at the University of Ottawa

Kathryn is the former Chief Human Resources Officer for the House of Commons of Canada (retired) where she was responsible for leading strategic human resources, corporate strategic planning, business continuity and corporate communications. She has executive leadership experience in human resources management that she gained in the healthcare sector as Vice President of Human Resources for the Ottawa Hospital, Canadian Blood Services and Bruyère Continuing Care.

She has practiced as a mediator for workplace disputes and harassment complaints and received her training in mediation at the Canadian International Institute of Applied Negotiation in Ottawa, at the Center for Dispute Resolution in Washington, D.C. and in the Program of Instruction for Lawyers at Harvard Law School. She currently works as an employer representative on rights and interest arbitration disputes.

In recognition of her contribution to the Human Resources profession, Kathryn was awarded the Vision Award as the Human Resources Professional of the Year by the Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario.  In 2012, she received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association.

She is  is the former chair of the Board of Service Coordination des services, a local social service agency that provides services to children and adults with developmental disabilities. She is a member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders, the Institute of Corporate Directors, the Champion’s Council of the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association, and the Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario and she has recently completed a term as a member of the Board of Governors of the Ottawa Hospital.  Kathryn is a graduate of the University of Ottawa.
