What was your last career change?
My most recent career change was being promoted to a Senior Analyst role after several years as an Applications Officer atin the Faculty of Medicine. This new step allows me to leverage my experience, take on new challenges, and contribute more strategically to improving services and processes.
What made it successful?
My curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to take on new challenges played a key role. Over the years, I had the opportunity to assume a variety of responsibilities, collaborate with different teams, and develop a strong understanding of our systems and users’ needs. The support and trust of my colleagues also contributed significantly to my success.
What was the biggest challenge in adapting to your new role?
The biggest challenge was transitioning from a primarily operational role to one that involves more analysis, coordination, and decision-making, while adapting to new responsibilities. Learning to step back, prioritize issues, and balance immediate needs with long-term goals has been an important part of this transition.
What tasks do you find AI most helpful for in your role?
I find AI most useful for organizing and simplifying technical information, drafting clear communications, developing procedures, and exploring different solution options. AI is an excellent tool for saving time and sparking creativity, while still requiring a critical eye and careful attention to data confidentiality.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career change?
Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone! You do not need to know everything from the start. Curiosity, open-mindedness, and a willingness to learn are often just as important as experience. Every new challenge is an opportunity to grow.
How can colleagues help someone transition into their new responsibilities?
By sharing their knowledge, being patient, and creating an environment where it is easy to ask questions. Sometimes, a simple conversation or a small piece of advice can make all the difference.
What do you look forward to in your day?
I enjoy the variety of challenges, the opportunities to learn, and especially the interactions with my colleagues. I particularly enjoy solving complex problems, finding ways to improve our processes, and seeing how a solution can genuinely make someone’s work easier. And, of course, a good sense of humor always makes the day more enjoyable!
