The Federal Court has overturned the government’s previous shut down order, allowing TikTok’s Canadian operations to continue while a new national security review proceeds.
The revised decision follows national security concerns raised since 2024. The court’s ruling essentially hits the reset button, giving the government and TikTok space to reassess platform risks and obligations.
For the University of Ottawa community, this is a timely reminder of the importance of maintaining vigilance online. National security and intelligence recommend being mindful of how much personal information we share on social platforms and to understand how personal data may be collected, stored, or accessed by third parties.
