OLBI promotes excellence and innovation in the fields of bilingualism (broadly defined), language teaching and learning, policy, assessment, and technology. The purpose of the Mobility Research Chair is to advance and deepen OLBI's tradition of excellence by attracting a visiting scholar who will support the Institute’s mission and make scholarly contributions in one or more of the following research areas:
- learning and teaching of a second/foreign language and literacy learning, including French/English immersion and content-based approaches/CLIL, French as a Second Language (FSL), French or English for Academic/Specific Purposes (FOS/EAP/ESP), EMI (English Medium of Instruction), International Education
- language assessment
- sociolinguistic approaches to individual and societal bilingualism or multilingualism, including in minority francophone contexts
- technology-based language learning and teaching, including generative AI, hybrid and distance learning
- language policy and planning, including family language policy, Indigenous language policy and maintenance, as well as heritage/minority language policy and planning
- positive psychology and affective factors in language learning and teaching, or psycholinguistic and cognitive approaches to language acquisition
The holder of the Mobility Chair will contribute to OLBI’s tradition of interdisciplinary work and the promotion of local, national, and international collaborations. The Chair will support the activities of the OLBI Research Center (CCERBAL) through knowledge mobilization and dissemination efforts (i.e. OLBI Journal, CCERBAL conference and research forums), may contribute as a guest speaker to graduate seminars in the Master of Arts in Bilingualism Studies, and potentially engage in research collaborations with current CCERBAL members.
Priority will be given to a researcher whose current position is held outside of Canada’s National Capital Region. An applicant should be recognized as a specialist in the field of applied linguistics or a related field, have a strong research agenda, and demonstrate a proven ability to work as part of a team.
The chair is non-renewable and may be held for a minimum duration of two months and up to one year. The chairholder will receive a stipend of up to $25,000 for one year (or $2080 per month) prorated by the proposed length of the contract. Stipends may be subject to income tax. If necessary, the incumbent will be responsible for obtaining a work permit in Canada with some information and support from OLBI and Human Resources.
