Event Details

Join us for a panel discussion featuring professionals in medicine, pharmacology, and public health. Panellists will share their journeys and insights into health professions through an Indigenous lens.

The discussion will highlight how these disciplines collaborate to provide integrated, culturally safe, and community-informed care. Open to anyone interested in health and science, the session will also explore systemic challenges and opportunities in Indigenous health.

The panel will be followed by time for questions and informal discussion.

Michelle Goulet

Ottawa Public Health (Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors)

Michelle Goulet is a Public Health Inspector in a Program and Project Management Officer role with Ottawa Public Health’s Safe Food and Water Team. She supports research, analysis, and the development of policies, programs, and projects for the team. Michelle provides technical guidance on studies and initiatives that advance public health priorities and works closely with management teams on planning, implementation, and evaluation. She also helps coordinate and develop clear, accessible health messaging for residents, community partners, service providers, and priority populations.

Margaret Coady

Margaret Coady

Environmental Public Health Services in First Nations Communities.

Margaret is a rural-indigenous mother, wife and auntie from Renfrew County, ON. She is Anishinaabe Kwe and is of Algonquin and mixed-settler heritage with paternal roots in Kebaowek First Nations and grew up along the shores of the Ottawa River in unceded, unsurrendered Algonquin territory. Margaret is an Environmental Public health Officer and works with Indigenous Services Canada supporting First Nations Communities in the 8 core areas of public health. Margaret is passionate about cooking and loves to travel for new culinary and musical experiences. She spends time coaching her kids’ various sports and enjoys nature and all winter sports and activities! Margaret is empowered through her work for others and thrives on supporting communities through her diverse life experiences. Margaret holds a master’s degree with the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland as well as a Bachelor of Health Science in Public Health from Cape Breton University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Nipissing University.

Dr. Alexandre Kokoko Petiquan

Dr. Alexandre Kokoko Petiquan

Faculty of Medicine

Dr. Alexandre Petiquan is Anishinaabe from Wabauskang First Nation. He graduated from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and is currently in residency, specializing in public health and preventative medicine at the University of Ottawa.  He also holds a master's in public health from Brock University.  His work spans Indigenous public health, health policy, governance, epidemiology, and data sharing agreements, both as a senior analyst in the Federal sector and as a member of the Health Expert Advisory Panel for Grand Council Treaty #3. He serves as a board member of the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) and advisory board member of the National Collaborating Centre for Environmental Health (NCCEH). 

Sydney Morin

Dr. Sydney Morin

Pharmacist at Hôpital Montfort and Assistant Clinical Professor at uOttawa PharmD.

Dr. Sydney Morin obtained her Doctorate of Pharmacy (research profile) from Université Laval. She then went on to complete a residency with The Ottawa Hospital and Hôpital Montfort joint residency program. She has since been practising as a clinical pharmacist at Hôpital Montfort, primarily in cardiology. Dr. Morin also works as a clinical professor and the Associate Director of admissions at the University of Ottawa’s School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Additionally, she is a clinician researcher at the Institut du Savoir Montfort. She serves as a Chair of the Canadian Society of Healthcare-Systems Pharmacy Ontario Branch’s East Chapter. Furthermore, she is a cardiology preceptor associated with several universities for pharmacy students and residents.
