Future Skills Conference

Details

Kick off Career Week with insights from the Future Skills Centre and the City of Ottawa. This student-focused session will explore the skills that are increasingly in demand (including the impact of AI), what “career resilience” looks like in today’s job market and in the future, and what current labour market signals suggest for the Ottawa region. Expect practical takeaways, local context, and a moderated Q&A to help you translate trends into actionable steps you can take this term.

What this session is about?

Kick off uOttawa Career Week 2026 with a practical, student-focused conversation on what “career resilience” looks like right now, especially as top skills are quickly shifting and as labour markets evolve and adapt to AI.

This opening conference brings together:

  • Future Skills Centre (FSC) to discuss a forward-looking view of emerging skills and what soon-to-graduate students can do now to stay adaptable.
  • City of Ottawa to discuss a local lens on Ottawa’s labour market, key trends, and what that may mean for early-career talent.

What you’ll gain:

  • A clear snapshot of which skills are in demand and why, including how AI is reshaping skill expectations.
  • A practical understanding of Ottawa-specific labour market signals and what opportunities may be emerging locally.
  • Concrete ideas to strengthen your skill portfolio, experiences and networks, so that you can be ready to pivot and thrive.
