What you need to know

Programs and courses

This process includes programs offered, minimum required averages, prerequisites, additional requirements and deadlines for each program. Even if you meet all these requirements, there’s no guarantee that your program change request will be accepted.

If you would like information about courses and other program components (for example, courses you have to complete, any required studies abroad, research or placement opportunities), see Programs and courses.

Deadlines

In most programs, by making your request before March 31, you ensure that you’ll be able to enrol in courses in your new program for the upcoming Fall and Winter terms. It is possible to submit a change request online as late as August 31 for the Fall term or from early October to November 30 for the Winter term, but if you do so, there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to enrol in the courses for your new program during the next course enrolment period. Some programs have deadlines prior to March 31. These deadlines are indicated for each program.

Prerequisites

Certain programs have prerequisites, courses that you have to have passed in secondary school, college or university. If you’ve done your secondary studies in Canada outside of Ontario and want to know the prerequisites for your intended program, see the prerequisite courses in other provinces or territories. If you’ve done your studies abroad, contact your current faculty to see if you have the necessary prerequisites.

Minimum required averages

Minimum required averages vary by program and language of instruction, according to the number of places available. If you want to take your program in French, see the French-language version of the Program and eligibility table. Minimum required averages can change without notice. To see your cumulative grade point average (CGPA), check My Grades in uoZone under the Applications tab.

Alternative method of evaluation if you have just started university

If you do not yet have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) because you are in your first term at the University of Ottawa or if you haven’t yet completed 9 course units, you can still request a change of program. In this case, we will use your admission average to evaluate your request.
