Here are highlights of the events taking place at the University of Ottawa from April 29 to May 4, 2024:

Regional Powers and the Taliban in Afghanistan: Strategic Partnership or Fragile Interactions?
WHEN: Wednesday, May 1 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
WHERE: Social Sciences Building, Room 4004; in person.
A comprehensive exploration of the intricate relationships between the Taliban and key anti-US regional powers, including Russia, Iran, and China, in the aftermath of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. (In English)


The Strategic State: Key lessons from the Scottish experience
WHEN: Thursday, May 2 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
WHERE: Social Sciences Building, Room 5027; in person.
Reforms to the NPF show how a lack of focus has created significant challenges in the practice of strategy across the Scottish Government, police service and health service. The lessons from this case offer important insights for designing systems of government fit for the 21st Century. (In English)


Transitional Justice in the 21st Century
WHEN: Thursday, May 2 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. .
WHERE: Social Sciences Building, Room 5028; in person.
According to the United Nations, transitional justice comprises “the full range of processes and mechanisms associated with a society’s attempt to come to terms with a legacy of large-scale past violations and abuses to ensure accountability, serve justice, and achieve reconciliation”. Members of the Transitional Justice Evaluation Team (TJET), which runs the Transitional Justice Program at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Carr Center for Human Rights will discuss their work. Acfas Conference
WHEN: May 13 to 17, 2024.
WHERE: University of Ottawa.
The University of Ottawa will host the 91st Annual ACFAS Conference, where more than 6,000 participants are expected for the biggest scientific conference of the Francophonie, in which over 300 sessions on various research disciplines will be presented.
