A specialist in French teaching and Francophone studies, she primarily researches Francophone communities in minority language settings in Canada. She’s especially interested in the integration of the Francophonie as an educational resource for teaching French in Japan.
As current president of the Société japonaise de didactique du français (SJDF), the Japanese society for French teaching, she strives to promote the Francophonie in Japan and to help develop educational approaches that both support and celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity as well as social harmony.
This chair’s duration is two months, so Professor Komatsu will be in Ottawa from July 29 until September 29, 2026.
“The CCERBAL has provided me with a particularly stimulating environment in which to discuss with OLBI researchers and teachers and to observe various teaching methods. I will directly include these exchanges and observations when I draft a summary of my research on the Francophonies of Canada. I have just started the last chapter of this book, which is dedicated to university-level French immersion at the University of Ottawa. My stay has also allowed me to make progress on a manual that centres on Francophonies and which is tailored to the needs of intermediate-level learners in Japan.”
