David Hung

David Hung holds a doctorate in mathematics education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. He received his teaching certificate from the Ontario College of Teachers in 2008, after earning his bachelor of education from the University of Ottawa. He also holds a master of education (studies in teaching, learning and evaluation), a bachelor’sin computer science and computer engineering, and a graduate diploma in management. He is a certified teacher in Ontario and British Columbia. He has taught in the primary, junior, intermediate and senior divisions of Ontario public schools, as well as abroad, in both English and French. In addition to teaching, he has held roles including associate mathematics teacher, mathematics curriculum writer, mentor for student teachers, school principal, university lecturer and IT consultant. His research examines best teaching practices, particularly using a social constructivist lens. He explores the ways in which teachers promote collaborative learning, facilitate the co-construction of knowledge, design effective and appealing lessons, maintain student engagement and create inclusive, equitable and stimulating class environments. A core part of his research concerns the use of oral communication strategies to enrich mathematics teaching.
