Come and learn more about the work of two important research entities at the Faculty of Education, the Centre for Research on Educational and Community Services (CRECS) and the Empowered Leaders Network (ELN). The Directors of CRECS and the ELN will present their priorities and activities as well as the alignment with the priorities of the Faculty of Education. Following this presentation, you will know how you can contribute to their activities and successes. This session is intended for students as well as professors in the Faculty of Education.
John Sylvestre
Full Professor
John Sylvestre, PhD, is a Full Professor in the School of Psychology and Director of the Centre for Research on Educational and Community Services, at the University of Ottawa. His interests lie in the study and evaluation of community mental health programs, with a particular interest in homelessness and housing. His recent work focuses on community development and social change strategies in social housing.
Sachin Maharaj
Assistant professor
Sachin Maharaj is an assistant professor of Educational Leadership, Policy and Program Evaluation. His research, which focuses on student phone use in schools, the work of school boards/districts, teacher unions, and the equity implications of school choice has been published in Critical Education, Education Policy Analysis Archives, Leadership and Policy in Schools, and the Canadian Journal of Educational Administration and Policy. Professor Maharaj is also a contributor to the Toronto Star and regularly appears in media outlets like CBC, and TVO. His current research projects examine anti-racist school district reforms and the implementation of policies to restrict student cellphone use in schools.
