Description

Drawing on the first 15 years of his career in education as a teacher, researcher, academic and growing collaborator with schools, Andy Hargreaves’s book, The Making of an Educator, casts light on what he calls the Great Education Shift. This was a period during the early 1980s which was marked by the rise of neoliberalism and the first expressions of populism.

Andy's reflections on the present and the past and how to deal with them offer powerful and provocative insights into some of the most pressing issues in schools and universities today, including professional autonomy, evidence-based practice, early career struggles, cross-generational empathy, intellectual bias, culture wars, theory-practice collaboration, and the impact of mentors. This captivating and inspiring book is not just about Andy and the experiences that shaped him. It is about what it means for yourself, your work, and your world as you seek to create a better future for all our young people and those who serve them. Original, compelling, practical, and sometimes very funny, this is a book that speaks to all educators and researchers everywhere.
