The world is grappling with the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, bringing with it the need for responsible, inclusive, sustainable frameworks governing AI use. This high-level panel offers an in-depth examination of strategic, ethical and policy directions for AI development in a diverse, interconnected world.
This event is part of the international conference AI and Interdisciplinary Perspectives: Understanding and Acting Together in Response to Contemporary AI Challenges. The conference organizers are the Educational Technology and Distance Learning research group, led by Professor El Hadji Yaya Koné at the uOttawa Faculty of Education, and the Montreal-based Association for Pedagogical Innovation and Professional Development .
Appolinaire Aya
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Congo
His Excellency Mr. Appolinaire Aya has served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Congo to Canada since June 26, 2024. Based at the Embassy of the Republic of Congo in Ottawa, he is tasked with strengthening and deepening bilateral relations between Brazzaville and the Government of Canada, within a partnership reinforced by the opening of a resident embassy in 2020. His appointment reflects a clear commitment to invigorating diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two nations, particularly within the Francophone sphere.
Peter Hominuk
Executive Director of the Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario (AFO)
Mr. Peter Hominuk is the Executive Director of the Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario (AFO), the advocacy organization representing Francophones and Francophiles across the province. Before joining the AFO, he served as the director of La Clé d’la Baie, which he helped develop into a dynamic social enterprise offering a wide range of French‑language services within its community. As head of the AFO, he plays an active role in defending language rights, engaging in dialogue with governments, and creating spaces for collaboration at the provincial level. He also contributes to structuring collective efforts aimed at reflecting on the future of Ontario’s Francophonie.
Yves Pelletier
Associate Vice-President, Office of Francophonie and External and Community Relations
Dr. Yves Pelletier is Associate Vice-President, Francophonie, within the newly established Office of Francophonie and External and Community Relations. A Franco-Ontarian originally from Sudbury, he has long been committed to the advocacy, recognition, and mobilization of Francophone communities in Ontario and across Canada, at the institutional, community, and academic levels. Throughout his professional career, Dr. Pelletier has worked to strengthen connections between the university and Francophone communities by fostering sustainable partnerships with community, educational, cultural, and institutional stakeholders. His work is guided by a strategic vision aimed at enhancing the visibility, vitality, and long-term sustainability of Francophonie, particularly in minority language settings.
