Teaching subjects chart 2026

Before submitting an application for admission, it is important to consult the school option chart and compare the requirements with your university transcript. This chart allows you to verify whether you have the required number of courses in the subject or subjects you wish to teach, and to identify any related courses or specific requirements that may apply. This step will help you better understand your eligibility and prepare a more complete application.

Junior/ Intermediate (J/I) - Grade 4 to 10

You must choose : 1 teaching subject

Requirement: You must have either a total of 6 courses in the teaching subject area, or 4 courses in the subject area plus 2 related courses.

Intermediate/ Senior (I/S) - Grade 7 to 12

You must choose : 2 teaching subjects

Teaching Subject 1: You must have 10 courses in the teaching subject area, or 6 courses in the subject area plus a maximum of 4 related courses.

Teaching Subject 2: You must have 4 courses in the teaching subject area. No related courses are accepted for the second teaching subject.

*Please note that the Primary/Junior teaching division, for individuals who wish to teach from Kindergarten to Grade 6, does not require prerequisite courses.

Subject courses: A subject course is a course directly related to the discipline you wish to teach. It forms the core of your preparation in that subject. Teaching subject courses are identified by a course code, such as BIO or BIOL for biology, or GEG or GEOG for geography.

Related courses: A related course is a complementary course that is connected to the subject, without being a core course in that discipline. It may count only in certain cases and within specific limits. Related courses are those with at least 80% of their content connected to the teaching subject, such as physiotherapy for biology, or geology or environmental studies for geography. Related subjects must be directly related to the teaching subject.

Studio courses: A studio course is a practical course in which you actively participate in artistic creation, interpretation, or production. A studio course counts toward the number of courses required for the subject.
