Colin Bellinger is an associate professor at the uOttawa School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and a faculty affiliate at the Vector Institute. His research focuses on machine intelligence and robot learning, with particular emphasis on reinforcement learning (RL) and the development of safe, adaptable and generalizable RL algorithms for real-world systems. His work has been applied to robotic manipulation and navigation, materials discovery, and health and safety decision-making.
Professor Bellinger earned his PhD in computer science from uOttawa in 2016 and completed post-doctoral fellowships at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) and Dalhousie University. Before returning to uOttawa, he was a staff scientist at the National Research Council of Canada, where he led research at the intersection of AI, automation and applied science.
