Nancy Samaan is a professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa. She received her PhD in computer science from uOttawa in 2007. Before this, she earned her BSc (1998) and MSc (2001) in computer science from Alexandria University, Egypt.
Samaan’s research focuses on network and systems management, resource optimization and programmable network architectures. Her interests include software-defined networking (SDN), network function virtualization (NFV), programmable data planes and P4, named data networking (NDN), network virtualization, cloud computing and edge computing. Her recent work addresses resource-efficient deployment of virtual network functions and service function chains, quality of service (QoS)-aware optimization, and network telemetry and congestion control.
Samaan received the University Faculty Award from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
