Maxime Perron is an assistant professor in the audiology program of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Ottawa. He holds a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences and a master's degree in clinical and biomedical sciences (specializing in rehabilitation) from Université Laval. He earned a doctorate in psychology with a specialization in auditory neuroscience from the University of Toronto. He then undertook postdoctoral training at Toronto Metropolitan University supported by a Canada Postdoctoral Research Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
His research focuses on identifying neurobiological markers associated with age-related difficulties in speech perception in noise, using both controlled laboratory tasks and more ecologically valid conversational contexts. He is also interested in the interindividual factors that modulate these markers. He is exploring various intervention strategies that aim to attenuate or reverse such difficulties, including the use of hearing aids and the practice of musical activities.
He is a co-founder of the Ontario Network for Emerging Auditory Research (ON-EAR), an annual scientific conference that aims to promote collaboration, encourage knowledge sharing, and spur the development of a provincial scientific community in the field of auditory science.
