Expanding global collaborative networks: grant success for progressive MS research
Professor Lara Pilutti (Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences) and Professor Sarah Donkers (University of Saskatchewan) have received €2.3 million in funding to co-lead a new clinical trial for multiple sclerosis (MS). The launch of this research project is a significant hope for patients with progressive MS, aiming to find more effective solutions for this group of patients who have long been overlooked by mainstream therapies. The project first uses a "activation" method to put the brain in a learning-friendly state, followed by high-intensity, customized training to achieve more efficient recovery. This research is not only a scientific experiment but also an attempt to bridge the final gap between bench and bedside. Through long-term follow-up and international collaboration, it strives to bring truly accessible treatment options to MS patients worldwide within the next five years.

Creative Research Outreach and Cultural Engagement
The opening of the Centre de recherche sur les francophonies canadiennes (CRCCF) Student Symposium 2026 was marked with a unique cultural evening combining a book launch and theatrical readings. Published by University of Ottawa Press, the collection edited by Professor Marie-Claude Thifault (School of Nursing) features eight fictional narratives inspired by the real-life experiences of individuals who lived serious mental health challenges over the past century. The event also included a dramatic staged reading directed by Amélie Trottier and performed by a cast of emerging actors. Through this cross-disciplinary performance, research from Professor Thifault and her colleagues was transformed into a dynamic theatrical experience, showcasing the creative potential of giving voice to the stories and experiences preserved in archival sources.
Celebrating the launch of Parrhèsia
Supported by a collaborative initiative between the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Civil Law Section of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa, the interdisciplinary journal Parrhèsia was successfully launched in May 2025. The bilingual, peer-reviewed, open-access journal aims to advance critical perspectives at the intersection of mental health and law. The launch event brought together researchers, students and members of the community to celebrate the journal and its commitment to critical dialogue and inclusive scholarship.
