The Advanced Airway and Oxygenation Fellowship program consists of 12 months of training in the sub-specialty area of advanced airway management. The term is structured to meet the needs of the individual fellow who seeks specialized training in clinical practice, research and the use of advanced technology in airway management.

Goals and objectives
General objectives
The objective of the Advanced Airway and Oxygenation Fellowship is to provide the Fellow the opportunity to acquire the technical and cognitive skills necessary to provide safe and effective care to patients with challenging airways, while further developing the academic skills required to become leaders and instructors in clinical and academic anesthesiology.
Teaching and presentation experience
The fellow is expected to provide technical instruction to the residents and to assist them in the clinical management of patients utilizing the advanced care technology. This responsibility will vary from fellow to fellow and will predominantly occur during the consolidation phase of the fellowship. In addition, the fellow will be asked to present to the Department once during the fellowship term on a topic relevant to the sub-specialty.
Technical objectives
Provide technical training with the advanced technology utilized in the management of patients with difficult airways including:
rigid and flexible endoscopes and video-endoscopes
- video laryngoscopes
- optical intubating stylets
- intubating laryngeal masks
- retrograde intubation techniques
- percutaneous surgical management of the airway.
Provide clinical experience in the evaluation and management of patients with difficult airway undergoing anesthesia and intensive care.
Academic objectives
The fellow will be assisted in the completion of an academic project during the fellowship year; this may include a chart review, a brief narrative review on a relevant topic or a limited research project.
