You are invited to attend a presentation offered by Dr. Alessandro Gusman entitled "Dying Silently: The discourse on 'social death' as a political claim among Congolese refugees in Kampala". The presentation will be in English, followed by a bilingual discussion period.
Dr. Alessandro Gusman is a professor of Cultural Anthopology at the Department of Cultures, Politics and Society at the Università di Torino.
Since earning his Ph.D. in 2008 with a thesis on Pentecostalism in Kampala, Uganda, he has been researching Great Lakes Africa and Uganda in particular, focusing on Pentecostalism, religion and migration, and urban anthropology. Specifically, his scholarly interests focus on Congolese urban refugees in Kampala, Pentecostalism, perspectives on migration and resettlement, and future and aging in migratory contexts.
