Country of internship: Tunisia
Canadian NGO: Alternatives
Local NGO: Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES)
I'm a fourth-year student studying conflict and human rights. Ever since I was a little girl, I've dreamed of working in an NGO and carrying out international humanitarian missions. So, to achieve this, I decided in my final year to take part in the international internship program at the Faculty of Social Sciences uOttawa to gain experience and put all the chances on my side to find a job in my field of study after my bachelor's degree.
I'm currently doing my internship with the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES). FTDES is a local NGO whose main mission is to defend the economic and social rights of the Tunisian people. FTDES was created in the context of the Arab Spring, and acts as an independent observer, providing information on the situation in Tunisia to guide public opinion in decision-making.
As part of my internship, I was asked to write a report on the trend of social movements in Tunisia. Over the course of my four years at university, I have learned to develop my skills in analyzing, writing and synthesizing information. This internship is an excellent opportunity for me to apply what I've learned, but also a great transition for me before taking my place in the professional world.
If any of you reading this are still hesitating to embark on this experience, I'd tell you not to hesitate. Participating in this program has enriched my Curriculum Vitae and enabled me to land another internship.
