Internship Country: Democratic Republic of Congo
Alternatives
Solidarité des femmes pour le développement intégral (SOFEDI)
The internship period is coming to an end, this week being my last meeting with the managers of the local NGO SOFEDI and the Canadian NGO Alternatives. First of all, I'd like to thank the internship coordinators and managers, who have been remarkably attentive. Always available to answer questions despite the different time zones.
I hoped that this experience would give me the knowledge I need to continue my education in gender studies, and I'm delighted. It's true that I didn't have any technical tasks as I had originally envisaged, but I was able to learn a great deal about SOFEDI's actions in the DRC, which is remarkable and very inspiring.
I sometimes ask myself, did I have the impact I wanted to have on the local NGO, on its mission? Maybe yes, maybe no, but I know that for the short time I was able to spend with them, despite the distance, I was a considerable help.
This experience, despite its challenges and setbacks, has made me grow and I feel ready to achieve new things in my career.
