Students may engage in paid work through:

• Teaching Assistantships (TAships)
• Research Assistantships (RAships)

Details regarding your funding package, including expectations related to TAships and RAships, are outlined in your official offer of admission. For information on rights and responsibilities, consult the CUPE 2626 Collective Agreement and resources provided by GASP.

Students may engage in paid work outside the program, either clinical (with program approval; e.g., psychometrist, unregulated healthcare provider) or non-clinical (e.g., retail, service, RAships outside the University). However, please be aware that there are CPA accreditation standards relevant to student work outside of the program. 

CPA Accreditation Standards

• Students may not work more than 20 hours per week outside the program.
• This 20-hour limit does not include work within the program, such as TAships and RAships.

If you find it necessary to work above this limit to support yourself, please consult with Program Leadership. As noted above, we may be able to help you find alternative solutions that do not contravene CPA Accreditation Standards.

Approval for Paid Clinical Work Outside the Program: Students who wish to offer paid clinical services must request approval from the program. Requests must be submitted to the Director of the Clinical Program at least two months in advance for review by the Clinical Program Committee before beginning any such work. Be sure to include both the policy on paid services of a clinical nature and the program-specific contract to offer paid services of a clinical nature outside program in your request. 

NB: the Clinical Program Committee does not meet during the summer to review such requests. Students should consult the Program Director or the Coordinator of Practica/Internships for guidance.

• Check your admission letter to learn about any scholarships that may have been provided to you at the time of admission.

• Emergency scholarships are available to support students facing unexpected financial hardship during their studies: GSAÉD Emergency Grants
• The Faculty of Social Sciences may also have emergency funding available to students. You can contact them directly at [email protected] or contact the Program Director, who can refer you directly.

Many internal awards are released throughout the year, including those designated for specific student populations.

Students should also consult scholarly and professional associations, including non-profit associations (e.g., CPA), which may offer scholarships, grants, or travel funding.

Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)

• Grants (non-repayable)
• Loans (repayable after studies)

Students may be able to apply for interest-free status while enrolled full-time. Loans often include a grace period after graduation before repayment begins.

Student Financial Assistance (Quebec)

• Loans (repayable)
• Bursaries (non-repayable)

No payments or interest accrue during full-time studies. An assessment simulator is available.
