In remembrance of Mehraban, Saeed and Alma.

The Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in honour of Mehraban Badiei Ardestani, Saeed Kadkhodazadeh Kashani and Alma Oladi, three uOttawa students who were killed in the crash of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 on January 8, 2020. Among the 176 passengers who lost their lives, 51 were students and academics, from 23 postsecondary communities.

Through this endowment fund, the University of Ottawa remembers and honours Mehraban, who was pursuing her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Health Sciences; Saeed, who was completing a PhD in chemistry at the Faculty of Science; and Alma, who was completing a PhD in mathematics at the Faculty of Science.

The Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to Iranian students at the University of Ottawa who demonstrate financial need. The university will match all donations up to a maximum total of $100,000.

International students are a vital part of the uOttawa community, and it is with heavy hearts that we mourn this loss. Our sincerest condolences to the students’ loved ones, to those who worked with them on campus and to the broader Iranian community. We will not forget them.
