Start-Up Garage
Selected students have 3-months to get their business off the ground and be their own boss. Applications are reviewed and ranked, and the top candidates are invited to pitch their business. Startup Garage runs from June to August and offers space, mentorship, formal training, support and cash to for students to launch their companies.

“The mix of people from different backgrounds and different levels of expertise has enabled me to accelerate my business at a rate which I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish on my own,” says Philippe Chiasson, founder of Printearth and Start-Up Garage alumnus. Printearth not only offers 3D printing services, but also manufactures a biodegradable bio-plastic filament that matches the performance of standard plastic filament while cutting down on operational costs by at least 25%.

Many Start-Up Garage alumni have succeeded in making their businesses successful — Micrometrics, Proximify and Spoonity are all graduates of the Start-Up Garage, and have all been featured in Ottawa Business Journal’s annual “Start-ups To Watch” feature.
