Professor Karen Eltis has been appointed to Presidential Task Force on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies of the New York City Bar Association.

The New York City Bar Association has established the Presidential Task Force on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies to a build a centre of excellence and tought Leadership in the fields of artificial intelligence and emerging digital technologies Composed of approximately 250 representatives from over 50 committees, councils, and other groups within the City Bar, the Task Force brings together a diverse community of lawyers, academics, technologists, consultants, and trade association leaders. The Task Force addresses critical issues such as digital assets, crypto technologies, and the evolving global AI regulatory landscape. Members collaborate across 14 artificial intelligence subcommittees, 14 digital technology subcommittees, and 4 specialized working groups.

Within the Task Force, Professor Karen Eltis, a Faculty member at the Centre for Law, Technology and Society and a Full Professor of Law within the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section at the University of Ottawa, will contribute to the subcommittee on the International Regulation of Artificial Intelligence, co-chaired by Nichole Sterling and Austin Brown. This subcommittee focuses on global perspectives and regulatory frameworks for AI technologies, aligning with Professor Eltis expertise in law and innovation.
