The University of Ottawa has confirmed its place on Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities list for 2022, published today by the well-regarded Research Infosource.

For the second year in a row, the University holds eighth place in the medical category, comprised of universities with a medical school.

The 2022 rankings indicate that uOttawa is among top 10 Canadian leaders for research income growth. Its research income increased by an impressive 13% between 2020 and 2021, to more than $432 million — a $50 million boost.

“For many years now, the University of Ottawa has constantly increased its research revenues, thanks to the tremendous work and talent of its researchers,” said Sylvain Charbonneau, vice-president, research and innovation. “We will continue building our capacity for both state-of-the-art infrastructure and brainpower, to support our ambitions. We want to provide the best environment for breakthrough research and innovation that will benefit society here in Canada and around the world.”

The 2022 Research Infosource rankings also highlight granting council research income performance for the past five years (fiscal 2017 to 2021). The University of Ottawa took sixth place for research income from both the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council ($68 million) and the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (over $276 million), in the form of grants to uOttawa researchers.
