On February 1, 2021, the HRREC Human Rights Clinic, in association with Peruvian NGOs IDL (Instituto de Defensa Legal, a human Rights organization) and ORPIO (Organizacíon Regional de los Pueblos Indígenas del Oriente), filed a request of precautionary measures before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, seeking to protect Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation in Peru.

We are pleased to announce that Navraj Kaushik was awarded the Jacques Gaudreau Graduate Scholarship in International Human Rights Law for the academic year 2020-2021. This scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding graduate student (Masters or Ph.D.) in the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa.

Congratulations to long-time HRREC member Aboubacar Dakuyo, who successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled “À la recherche d’un modèle de justice transitionnelle pour le Soudan du Sud (In Search of an Effective Transitional Justice Model for South Sudan)” last January 22. He was studying under the supervision of Professor Pacifique Manirakiza, HRREC academic member.

The Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) and the Scholars at Risk (SAR) uOttawa Program stand in support of Jan Grabowski, full Professor in the Department of History at the University of Ottawa, who was sued for libel in a Polish court along with Prof. Barbara Engelking, a Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, for their research relating to the Holocaust in Poland.
