Advancing AI literacy at uOttawa: Highlights from AI Literacy Days 2026

The University of Ottawa hosted AI Literacy Days, a two-day event that drew more than 250 participants from across the University community, including professors, staff and students. It was organized by the Information Technology team, Microsoft education specialists, the Professional Development Institute, the Teaching and Learning Support Service and the Library. The event brought together experts, educators and professionals for engaging discussions, thought-provoking presentations and practical learning opportunities. Sessions were offered in both French and English, with participants joining in person at the INNOVA Space (CRX) and online.

Throughout the event, participants explored how artificial intelligence is transforming teaching, learning, research and institutional practices at uOttawa. Through hands-on workshops, interactive sessions and campus showcases with interactive booths from University partners, attendees gained practical insights into using AI responsibly and effectively in academic and professional contexts.

AI in action across campus

A highlight of the event was the showcase of AI projects and initiatives developed across uOttawa. These demonstrations featured emerging tools and services, including AI-powered chatbots and productivity solutions. They illustrate how artificial intelligence is already being integrated into University operations and student services.

Participants also engaged in interactive workshops designed to build practical skills and confidence in applying AI tools. The Generative AI for Teaching Bootcamp andthe Microsoft Copilot Prompt-a-thonprovided opportunities for participants to experiment with prompting techniques, explore responsible AI practices and discover new ways to include AI in teaching and everyday work.

The workshops focused on hands-on learning activities in prompt engineering, creation with Copilot and the practical application of generative AI in academic contexts. Participants engaged in collaborative exercises to strengthen their understanding of how AI tools can be effectively used integrated in teaching and professional practices.

Another session, From Compliance to Culture: Designing Accessible Learning for Everyone, explored accessibility and inclusive design in the adoption of AI technologies. It highlighted key considerations for ensuring that AI-driven tools support diverse learning needs and foster more inclusive educational environments across the University.

AI Literacy Days 2026 reaffirmed the University’s commitment to supporting the informed, responsible and practical adoption of artificial intelligence across its academic community. The strong engagement across faculties, services and external partners reflects the growing momentum around AI at uOttawa.
