Meet Ahmed - Product Manager

What was your last career change?

My most recent career change involved transitioning from managing complex projects within a relatively medium-sized organization to working on more transversal projects in a much richer and more diverse environment.

What made it successful?

Several factors I’d say. First, my adaptability and ability to integrate seamlessly into a new environment. Second, my passion for my work, which has always driven me to give my best in any circumstance. Finally, having had the opportunity to collaborate in the past with multidisciplinary, distributed, and multicultural teams (Europe and Africa) which has given me an enriching perspective on the world around me.

What was the biggest challenge in adapting to your new role?

One of the most significant challenges was quickly understanding the existing workflows and processes, especially within such a large organization. Grasping the inner workings of a complex structure takes time and requires careful attention to ensure effective integration while respecting established practices.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career change?

I would advise them first and foremost to prepare and carefully study all aspects of the change they are considering. Even a minor change can have significant repercussions on both personal and professional life. It’s essential to trust yourself and your ability to face challenges during this transition. And above all: trust the process while keeping your goals firmly in sight. To put it simply: thoughtful preparation combined with a positive mindset.

How can colleagues help someone transition into their new responsibilities?

Colleagues play a crucial role in the success of a professional transition. Surrounding oneself with kindness can have a positive impact on the productivity and trajectory of someone who is newly joining a team. Making that person feel they belong in the team (that famous "sense of belonging") is also very important.

What do you look forward to in your day?

What motivates me every day is the opportunity to analyze situations, identify problems, and propose solutions that improve the lives of those around me. I also find great satisfaction in identifying areas for improvement and constantly seeking optimizations. Finally, learning, unlearning, and relearning is a dynamic that stimulates me greatly – it’s what keeps me curious and engaged. As my former martial arts instructor used to say: always keep the mindset of a white belt.

If you were a chocolate bar, which one would you be?

I would probably be dark chocolate with a heart filled with red berry coulis.

What ingredient should never be found on a pizza?

Without hesitation: kale!

What three items would you bring if you were shipped to a deserted island?

I would bring something to start a fire; to protect myself from UV rays and a supply of water for survival.
