The Work-Study Program is a great way to combine work and a university education: you work part time during the school year and full time over the summer. Since you work on campus, you minimize travel time to and from class and benefit from a flexible schedule that allows you to really prioritize your studies.

The Work-Study Program also gives you a chance to discover new aspects of uOttawa, and provides practical job experience that can be very attractive to future employers. This employment will help foster your sense of initiative and hone your planning, teamwork, problem-solving, organizational and communication skills.

To work during:

• Spring/Summer term: March 14 to June 14, 2024
• Fall term: August 1 to October 14, 2024
• Winter term: November 30, 2023 to February 14, 2024

More than 1,700 positions are available in faculties and services. With our variety of jobs, you can usually find a position related to your field of study. Work-study supervisors know your course schedule and are able to work around it. Plus, you're on campus, so you're never too far from your classes.

• Student ambassador
• Student mentor
• Research assistant
• Assistant editor
• Assistant fundraising officer
• Theatre costume assistant

Please note that you can only hold one Work-Study Program position at a time.

You must meet these general criteria:

• Demonstrate financial need by completing the University of Ottawa’s financial questionnaire through the Work-Study Navigator
• Maintain satisfactory academic standing
• Pay your tuition fees to the University of Ottawa

You must also meet these specific criteria:

For Fall or Winter term (part-time position):

• Be enrolled in at least nine units of courses as an undergraduate student or be enrolled full time as a graduate student, at the University of Ottawa, for the term.
• For students living with a disability: be enrolled in at least six units (undergraduates) or part time (graduates) for the term. 

For Spring-Summer term (full-time position):

• Have been enrolled in at least nine units of courses as an undergraduate student or have been enrolled full time as a graduate student, at the University of Ottawa, for the preceding Winter term, and be returning to the University of Ottawa for the following Fall term.
• For students living with a disability: be enrolled in at least six units (undergraduates) or part time (graduates) for the preceding Winter term.

CO-OP program students

Fall/Winter (COOP)

• You can work part time during your Fall and Winter study terms through the Work-Study Program if you meet the eligibility criteria above. You must complete the financial questionnaire through uOzone and apply to the Work Study Program.

Summer (COOP)

• You can apply for summer full time jobs in the Work-Study Navigator, if, you were enrolled in at least 9 credits (undergraduate) or full-time (graduate) at the University of Ottawa during the previous winter term and continue your studies at the University of Ottawa the following fall term. You must complete the extended version of the financial questionnaire through uOzone and apply to the Work Study Program.
• However, if you select a Work-Study position, you must check with the CO-OP Office to ensure that this position meets the requirements of a CO-OP work term.

Applying for the Work-Study Program and searching for Work-Study positions is quick and simple using the Work-Study Navigator.

To apply for the WSP you must:

• Log into the Work-Study Navigator (through uoZone).
• Complete the financial questionnaire.
• Click Admission.

You can usually view your application status in the Work-Study Navigator within 48 hours. Once your application is approved, you can use the Work-Study Navigator to:

• Create your resumé
• Search and apply for Work-Study postings
• Sign the employment contract with your new employer

All contracts whose job duties include research tasks as defined in Article 4.3.5 of the CUPE 2626 collective agreement are subject to that collective agreement.
