Applicants must have one of the following five combinations to be considered for admission to the technology education teacher program: 

Option 1: Pathway to a Certificate in Education (C.Ed.) 

1. Required education:
   • High school diploma
2. Experience required (1700 hours is one year of experience):
   • A minimum of 5 years of wage-earning experience, including business or industrial experience, in the desired field of education
3. Supporting documents to be submitted
   • High school diploma
   • Proof of related postsecondary skilled work and/or wage-earning experience 

Option 2 : Pathway to a Certificate in Education (C.Ed.) 

1. Required Education:

• High school diploma
• Certificate of qualification in a skilled trade, in the desired field of education or certificate of college studies (duration 1 year)

2. Experience required (1700 hours is one year of experience):

• A minimum of 4 years of professional experience (other than teaching) in business or industry in the desired field of education, of which at least 4 months must be continuous

3. Supporting documents to be submitted:

• High school diploma
• Proof of related postsecondary skilled work and/or wage-earning experience
• C of Q or College diploma

Option 3 : Pathway to a Certificate in Education (C.Ed.) 

1. Required Education:

• High school diploma
• College diploma (2 years duration) in the desired teaching field

2. Experience required (1700 hours is one year of experience):

• A minimum of 3 years of professional experience (other than teaching) in business or industry in the desired field of education, of which at least 4 months must be continuous

3. Supporting documents to be submitted:

• High school diploma
• College diploma
• Proof of related postsecondary skilled work and/or wage-earning experience 

Option 4 : Pathway to a Certificate in Education (C.Ed.) 

1. Required education:

• High school diploma
• College diploma (3 years duration) in the desired teaching field

2. Experience required (1700 hours is one year of experience):

• A minimum of 2 years of professional experience (other than teaching) in business or industry in the desired field of education, of which at least 4 months must be continuous

3. Supporting documents to be submitted:

• High school diploma
• College diploma - advanced level
• Proof of related postsecondary skilled work and/or wage-earning experience 

Holders of a Certificate in Technological Education who wish to obtain a bachelor of education degree must meet the following requirements: 

• Complete a bachelor degree of at least 90 units
• Submit proof of completion of this bachelor's degree within 6 years of completing the Certificate in Technology Education. 

Option 5 : Pathway to a Bachelor of Education in Technology (B.Ed.) 

1. Required education:

• Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 90 units, in the desired field of study

2. Experience required (1700 hours is one year of experience):

• A minimum of 2 years of professional experience (other than teaching) related to the desired field of teaching, of which at least 4 months must be continuous

3. Supporting documents to be submitted:

• Baccalaureate transcript
• Proof of related postsecondary skilled work and/or wage-earning experience 

Applicants must support their application with: 

• A complete Résumé with degrees and proof of work experience. 
• Proof of academic qualifications satisfactory to the University (diploma or degree). 
• Proof of work experience, skills, and education must be related to the Broad-based Technology education field chosen by the applicant.

As part of your application, you must complete the CASPer test in addition to meeting the minimum and division-specific academic requirements.

CASPer is an online situational judgment test that assesses the personal and professional skills relevant to teaching. The assessment takes approximately 65 to 85 minutes and accounts for 40% of the admission decision.

Applications submitted without a CASPer result are considered incomplete and will not be reviewed. CASPer results are valid for one admission cycle only, and a new test must be completed each time you apply.

Only one Casper test is required for all your Teacher Education program choices. If you apply to more than one Teacher Education option, you do not need to complete multiple Casper tests.

Important: If you also apply to a Formation à l’enseignement (French-language) program, you must complete the French version of the Casper test in addition to the English version.

Registering for the CASPer test

Register directly through the Acuity Insights website.

The French Language Proficiency Test - TCLF-EduTek must be passed for admission to the Technological Education teacher program. 

This test is taken online. Applicants may register for a test session once they have submitted an application to the program.

Test objective 

Demonstrate proficiency in written French to meet the requirements of the Teacher Education Program - Technological Education and the requirements of Ontario's French-language school boards. 

Test components 

• Identify twenty errors 
• Answer five comprehension questions 
• Argumentative text of 180 to 200 words 

Duration: 2 hours

Test preparation

• Practice writing a variety of 200-word texts in 75 minutes 
• Review the characteristics of a letter  
• Review basic grammar rules
• Consult reference books containing the correction of anglicisms, barbarisms
• Consult websites offering grammar exercises, such as:

Results 

• Result of 80% or more: full pass • 
• Result between 60% and 79%: Partial pass - required to take the PED 1599 refresher course and pass the PED 1599 exam • 
• Result below 59%: Failed - will result in rejection from the program 

Modalities 

• No use of dictionaries, grammar sheets, or other reference tools 
• No second chances 
• No grade revision

Admission Application: The applicant submits an admission application to OUAC.on.ca and completes the TEAS form starting mid-September 2026.

Access to the uOzone Student Portal: The applicant receives an email with information on how to access the portal.

Experience Attestation: The applicant completes the experience attestation form and submits the required supporting documents.

Casper Test: The applicant pays the required fees to take the Casper test.

TCLF-EduTek: The applicant pays the required fees and registers for a session of the French Language Proficiency Test (TCLF-EduTek). The applicant must pass the TCLF-EduTek to be considered for admission.

Confirmation: Once the file is complete, the applicant receives an email from uOttawa indicating whether their admission application has been accepted or refused, starting January.

Admission Offer: The applicant accepts their admission offer and submits the deposit. They receive an email outlining the next steps.

The program begins on May 3, 2027.

In-person classes at the Ottawa Campus will be held from July 5 to 22, 2027.
