Élise Houssin

Professor Houssin’s research examines pedagogical interventions and learning processes in physical and health education, with a particular focus on the development of learning environments that foster students’ knowledge construction, agency, creativity, and critical thinking. Her research is grounded in activity theory, which she uses to examine the dynamic interactions among students, teachers, learning objects, and broader activity systems. A central focus of her work is the role of mediating artifacts—including educational materials, instructional resources, technologies, and pedagogical arrangements—in shaping and transforming teaching practices and learning processes. Her research also draws on self-study of practice as a situated and reflective approach to investigating the tensions, mediations, and transformations that emerge within pedagogical activity. Through this integrated perspective, her work seeks to advance understanding of educational practices and contribute to their ongoing development in response to diverse learning contexts and the varied needs of learners.
