Course sequence

Please note:

• Some courses are offered only in specific terms.
• Some courses may not be offered every year. 
• Some courses at levels 3000 and 4000 are not offered in French.
• For the French course codes, refer to the French course sequence.
• Courses with fewer than 12 registrants may be cancelled.

Program requirements for Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Design - Experiential Learning (90 units)

Please note that in the following course sequence:

• “Math or science elective” refers to any university-level mathematics or science course offered by the University of Ottawa. These courses can be identified by the discipline specified in the course code. They include:  

• "Engineering elective" refers to any course offered by the Faculty of Engineering. These courses can be identified by the discipline specified in the course code. They include:

• uOttawa elective refers to any course offered at the University of Ottawa. 
• Make sure you’ve completed the prerequisites for your chosen courses and that these courses can be combined for units. To identify any requirements or exclusions (courses that can’t be combined for units), see the relevant entries in the University course catalogue.
• If you’re not sure whether a particular course counts as a type of elective, whether a course is considered university level or whether courses can be combined for credit, contact the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Design faculty adviser. 
• Prerequisite replacement courses 
  • ITI 1120  (Introduction to Computing I) can replace  SED 1115  (Embedded Programming and Scripting).  ITI 1121  (Introduction to Computing II) can replace SED 2115  (Web and Mobile Applications). This can help you meet the prerequisites for upper-year ITI courses. 

In addition to the course list, students enrolled in the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Design must complete the following internships and community hours:

• SED 2917 | Internship I (3 units) — usually done during the summer term after completion of the first year
• SED 3917 | Internship II (3 units) — usually done during the summer term after completion of the second year
• SED 3901 | Community engagement (0 unit, S/NS) — usually completed in the final term of third year by aggregating volunteer hours undertaken throughout the program.

BASc Multidisciplinary Design Engineering (120 units)

• You must choose elective courses that, together, meet the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) criteria. This may require you to:
  • Take more than 120 units (credits), depending on what the CEAB considers the “contact hours” associated with the elective courses you’ve chosen.
  • Use your uOttawa electives to take additional engineering electives.
• To confirm that your chosen courses meet the CEAB criteria, check regularly with the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Design Engineering faculty adviser or with the instructors for SED 2901 or SED 4901.
