Lands and Consultation Hub

The Hub is a resource centre at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law dedicated to serving First Nations in Ontario. We provide accessible legal information and practical tools to help First Nations and Indigenous entities begin to navigate consultation with the Crown and industry on projects proposed on First Nation territories.

Who we are

geese

We’re here to support First Nations in asserting their inherent, constitutional, and procedural rights by easing the legal information burden. Depending on a First Nation’s needs, our resources may include plain-language legal guides, policy support, case summaries, and custom templates for response letters, protocols, and other agreements. We also offer training and guidance in consultation and land management for lands officers and First Nation leadership.

To access consultation support, please reach us by phone, or email.

About Our Services

The work of the Hub is produced by University of Ottawa law students, and is supervised by the Hub’s Director/Senior Legal Counsel, Cynthia Westaway, and various other Law Professors.

The Hub is supported by the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and is part of the work of the Centre for Environmental Law and Global Sustainability.
